Rebates

Medicare rebates

Clinical Psychology sessions are eligible for a rebate under the Medicare Better Access programme with a valid Mental Health Care Plan.

Medicare will reimburse $128.40 per standard consultation with a Clinical Psychologist. You will be required to pay the full amount on the day of your appointment and apply to medicare for the rebate which they will provide directly to your bank account.

Under Medicare policy the Clinical Psychologist must receive a copy of the referral letter and the Mental Health Care Plan in order for the rebate to be processed. If paperwork is not received the session is not eligible for a rebate.

Psychiatrists can also make referrals to Psychologists under the Better Access scheme. Should a psychiatrist refer you, only a referral letter is required.

Private Health Insurance Rebates

Should you wish to attend sessions and pay privately, no referral is required. Some private health insurance companies provide rebates for Clinical Psychology services, but this will be dependent on the insurer and the level of cover. Please contact your insurance company for details.

Please note you cannot claim rebates from Medicare and Private Health concurrently.
