About Sally

Sally is a clinical psychologist and has been working as a psychologist since 2009. Sally focuses on creating collaborative relationships with her clients based on trust and mutual respect so that they feel supported, listened to and understood. She strives to assist her clients compassionately explore and understand their past and current challenges, while supporting their progress towards their personal goals.

Prior to working in psychology she worked in the financial services sector in Sydney. Sally transitioned to a career in psychology as she wanted to focus on helping people. Throughout her career she has worked in rural and remote parts of NSW as well as in Australian cities. She has worked in private practice, government community programs and hospitals. Sally currently resides in Sydney where she works at inpatient hospitals and private practice.

Her approach has developed over the years with an early focus on cognitive behaviour therapy from her undergraduate and postgraduate training at Macquarie University. Her studies in the Master of Psychology program at the University of Wollongong generated an interest in acceptance and commitment therapy and short term psychodynamic psychotherapy. Working in forensic community and hospital settings later in her career enhanced her skills in dialectical behaviour therapy and metacognitive therapy. These days she continues to learn and is focusing on integrating emotion focused psychotherapy into her practice. Sally draws on all of these therapeutic approaches and experiences to help each client with their specific hopes and needs.

Her experience encompasses working with adults and young people with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety, trauma, career transitions, significant life events, grief and loss, drug and alcohol problems, post-traumatic stress and adjustment difficulties, self-esteem problems, relationship difficulties, parenting difficulties, therapeutic horticulture and counselling for personal growth.

During her postgraduate studies she completed research on the role of emotional intelligence within The Australian Defence Force as well as publishing research on the characteristics of the mental health recovery model in the Journal of Mental Health Training, Education and Practice (2018).

She is a member of The Australian Psychological Society (MAPS), Fellow of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists (FCCLP) and a Member of The Australian Clinical Psychology Association (MACPA). Sally is a Board Approved Supervisor.
